***** PLEASE SCROLL DOWN FOR THE ENGLISH VERSION ***** 【

[Seminar - London] Siege of PolyU 5 years on - From the Summer of Discontent to national awakening: Hongkongese nation at the crossroad

Reflecting on the historic moment of the Siege of PolyU five years ago, we invite protesters and participants who were trapped to recount their first hand harrowing experiences inside the walled redbrick city. Advocates focused on human rights in Hong Kong and Asia will also join us to discuss the future of civic participation for Hongkongers and other nationalities persecuted by Chinese authoritarianism.

The Siege of PolyU stands as one of the most iconic events in the 2019 Protests, tolling the highest number of arrests and injured protesters in a single day. Despite the risks of injury, arrest, and long prison sentence, protesters and Hongkongers demonstrated remarkable resilience and courage.

As room for dissent has been stripped away entirely in Hong Kong, memories of the 2019 Protests are now being censored, with many participants refraining from speaking the truth out of fear of their own safety. This seminar, through the perspectives of those who lived through the event, aims to break the regime’s attempt to rewrite the narrative, so we can reconstruct the event in a safe environment for participants to commemorate this significant chapter of our history.

We hope participants can reconnect through shared memories and together, we can explore future directions for persecuted communities resisting oppression.

United we stand against tyranny, Together we build a free Hong Kong
